In June 2025, the European Union updated the provisions for the classification and labelling of chemicals and mixtures. The harmonised list was amended to include 22 new substances, and the classification of 10 previously listed substances was revised based on the latest scientific evidence. These changes were developed by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to ensure a high level of protection for human health and the environment. The new requirements will enter into force on 1 February 2027, while their application is recommended from the date of publication — 10 July 2025. This transitional period allows companies to bring labelling and packaging into compliance and to sell existing stocks without breaching regulations. The updated classifications are mandatory for all manufacturers, importers, and distributors of chemical products within the EU.
